Savannah Dining
Neither Hard-Hearted Hannah, that Vamp of Savannah, nor anyone else need ever go hungry in this stronghold of Old South culinary intrigue, big on Po' Boys, Vidalia onions, copious quantities of seafood, and unsurpassed passion for barbeque. Casual meals favored among native Savannahians also include oyster roasts on the beach and a coastal favorite known as the Low Country Boil, mainly shrimp, corn on the cob, onions, sausage and new potatoes all boiled together and dumped on long tables for digging in. On the upper end of the culinary scale, blending with Savannah-inspired melodies like Moon River and Autumn Leaves, are restaurants of long-time stature pursuing other Low Country traditions such as crispy flounder in apricot sauce or blackened grouper stuffed with crab and nearly drowned in a sauce of those much-favored Vidalias.
